GIRISANCHAR, the Annual All India DAE Trekking Expedition, is now in its 29th year. This event has continued to fulfill its aim of providing a challenging week-long Trekking and Camping experience to its participants, thus promoting the zeal for adventure and infusing a sense of camaraderie among them.

ROUTE AND SCHEDULE: “Kaiga Township - Shirve Gudda – Malagadde – Haroor – Kalache -Shivpur- Ulavi” Region in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka State.

Base Camp: NPCIL Kaiga township (NPCIL Kaiga township is approx 40 km by road from Karwar) Discharge

Camp: Ulavi (Channabasavanna temple premises near Anshi-Dandeli Wild Life sactuary). Ulavi can be reached from Dandeli (60 km east) or from Karwar (85 km southwest)].

The trek route [Kaiga Township - Shirve Gudda – Malagadde – Haroor – Kalache - Shivpur- Ulavi] is of approx. 80 Kms and runs mostly in evergreen forest, valleys, Coconut & Areca plantations, paddy fields situated amid hills and streams. This route is close to Anshi-Dandeli Wild Life sanctuary. Trekkers will be climbing Shirve Gudda peak and Malagadde. The other attractions of this trekking expedition are Sattoddi Falls, Mahamane Caves, famous Ulavi (Aakala Gavi) caves, Kadra Dam, Ulavi Channabasavanna temple. One batch per day would report at the designated base camp from January 23, 2018 onwards. Each batch would be discharged on the 7th day on completion of the trek (no. of batches: 8). Please note that the trek route for Girisanchar-29 is not circular Therefore it is advisable to the participants to carry the optimum luggage.

PARTICIPATION: The participants should be prepared to walk a distance of about 18 to 20 Kms per day on a medium to difficult terrian. The route of Girisanchar-29 trek is graded as Medium trek. Also, no sleeping gear (sleeping mat, sleeping bag, blankets etc) will be provided to the participants. Each participant need to carry his/her own sleeping gear throughout the trek.

Participation would be subject to following conditions:

1. Number of participants would be limited to 225, including 75 from Units other than from Mumbai & Tarapur.
2. Only DAE employees and one family member (spouse or child) per employee can participate in this event.
3. Guests/Retired employees are not allowed.
4. Each trekking batch will comprise of mix of new participants and repeaters [typically 40% new participants & 60% repeaters (30% who have completed five or more Girisanchar treks and remaining 30% with less than five Girisanchar treks)].
5. Medical certificate is compulsory for all participants.
6. Participants will abide by all the rules and conditions set by Organising Committee and shall give their consent for the same. The right of admission and the batch allotment is reserved with the Organising Committee.
7. Subsidised participation fee of Rs.3250/- (as against the anticipated participation fee of Rs.4000/-) is payable with the Enrolment form after taking into account the subsidy of Rs. 750/- per employee being provided by DAE Sports & Cultural Council. This is also extendable to the family members.

LEAVE : Participating employees would be entitled for Special Casual Leave as per rules subject to IMF Approval. Necessary approval for the expedition is being sought from India Mountaineering Foundation for this purpose. It may please be  noted that due to some unavoidable circumstances, if IMF approval is not granted, participants will have to avail their own leave. Participants are required to take prior provisional sanction of leave for this expedition from leave sanctioning authority.

ENROLMENT: Enrolment would be done on the receipt of individual enrolment forms, completed in all respects and accompanied by requisite participation fees.
